This doll came to me as part of a large collection of vintage travel combined with my own dolls when I was a little girl. I have only recently unpacked all these after a long time in storage but this doll is so unlike everything else in the collection that I wonder whether she is indeed from a much earlier period than the mid 1950's - 60's??? She has a sort of 'ceramic' face/head and a cloth / rag body.
Her face is certainly not bisque but appears to be similar to a substance which is the same of an old Chinese (Mao period) doll which I also found in the collection, There is some crackling on her face. The stitching is by machine and her clothes are simple cotton. The hair looks like mohair and the braids are tied with string not ribbon. She is sweet but plain with embellishments. I cannot seem to fine anything which looks similar on the net and I just feel more and more that she may have come from my Mother's 'doll past', so might date well before 'my time of the 1950's ????
If any of you wonderful Ruby Lane, highly expert, doll specialists could help, even in a slight way identify this, it would be most appreciated! Thanking you in advance!
