This is a great piece of Victorian woven jewelry. It is an 18" long x 1/2" wide watch chain designed in rollo style, so each woven loop is a separate unit. Another 2 1/2" woven unit ending with a rolled gold goldstone and etched fob extends from the chain.
The goldstone fob is 3/4" square; gold losses are apparent on the metal portions. It is signed Simmons on the end of the hook.
Every other loop is a double loop. One loop has some damage, with a portion of the weaving missing. There may be some tiny losses on other loops.
This is hairwork jewelry, I believe made with elephant hair or horsehair. My research indicates that other hair was used in addition to human hair. Some type of shellac may have been applied to further stiffen the hair.
