This 374 page textbook is a history of Virginia written for students in the schools of Virginia in the late nineteenth century. The author Mary Tucker Magill had published the original work in 1881 and this is an updated and revised edition of that book. The publisher was J.P. Bell of Lynchburg and Richmond. The book follows standard practices for public school students in that era. For example there are "Questions for Examinations" at the end of each chapter. The book was clearly well received since it went into a revised edition. There is apparently a page missing at the front and there are some signs of usage here and there (clearly ware on the spine) but overall a good public school textbook.
