This book is a translation into German of "Poetry of the East". It is divided into sections by language/country-for example Chinese, Indian, Persian. The book has 637 pages. It was published by Verlag Von Otto Wigand in Leipzig. There is an interesting page before the introduction with reference to Prince Albert, Husband of Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The details of the making of the book are exceptional. There are raised lather dividers on the spine with gilt decorations between them. Double fine gilt lines with circles at the corners border the front and back. There is a geometric pattern on the long edges of the book. A most attractive feature is the lovely marbled pattern in browns and teal along the top, bottom, and fore edge. This is reminiscent of fore edge painting. The book shows some wear at the spine with a small bit of missing leather on the front and a one inch split at the top of the spine. There is some staining on the back cover. On the interior we see some foxing. On the front cover there is a personal book plate and the mark of a library in Guernsey. The latter mark also appears on the Prince Albert page. There are also some pencil marks on the back of the frontis page. The book is 9 inches by 6 inches.
