The striking bronze color of the "turkey" on this oyster plate anchors the color palette. The five oyster wells are outlined in black with fine gilt markings along the border. The distinctive "spots" in the wells are in black with a bit of pink and the ends of the wells are accented with pink. The ribbon background and the border are beautifully trimmed with gilt. The lustrous surfaces play with the light, especially the bronze in the turkey. Notice the three dimensional "piecrust" edge of this mold, pictured on page 73 of the reference book, "Collecting Oyster Plates", by Jeffrey Snyder. on a turkey plate painted with a different color palette. On the back of the plate is the mark of the retailer, Davis Collamore & Co. of New York. This was one of the finest emporiums in New York in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They commissioned cutom porcelain and glass from the finest European makers. They were in business from 1820 until 1887. The diameter of the plate is 8.5 inches, and the plate is in beautiful condition with only minimal surface wear.
