Minton made outstanding oyster plates. This lovely blue and white plate has the pattern name, "Dorset", written below the Minton logo on the back. There are 6 oyster wells, a center sauce well, and a cracker well. There is a British registration mark on the back from which it can be determined that the plate was made in 1877. The plate is 10 inches in diameter and in fine condition, with only two minor flecks on the underside center 5.5 inch rim, shown in a picture, and some crazing on the back. This is a rarely seen Minton oyster plate; the mold for this plate is pictured on page 57 of the reference book, "Oyster Plates", by Karsnitz. Note that there is a blue Minton mark and also an impressed Minton mark plus the information in the registration mark. Please click on the images to supersize them. You can see all the wonderful details on this oyster plate. Please see the other oyster plates in our shop, CAMDEN HOUSE ANTIQUES; we have two additional Minton oyster plates in blue and white using the same mold as "Dorset". They make a handsome trio.
