This oyster plate was made by the Carl Tielsch Porcelain Manufactory in the late 19th century even though his mark is not on the back. We had an identical matching companion plate with the "C.T." mark. Both plates have the "R" in a diamond (which is a registration mark). Tielsch was a well respected maker of oyster plates and other porcelain. His company was in Silesia, which at the time was part of Germany. This oyster plate has a handsome form - 5 oyster wells, 2 small wells for other seafood and a center sauce well with a "fish head" design. The oyster plate has a very pleasing color palette of sunset pink, pale peach with shades of brown and gray. The pebbled surface between the wells adds texture. The entire oyster plate has a beautiful luster. There are no condition issues; the plate is in outstanding condition - no hairlines, repairs, or chips. The plate is 9 1/4" across from top pebbled area and 9 1/4" the other direction as well.
We have a pair of these oyster plates, sold individually, in case you want matching oyster plates to "anchor" a shelf, wall table or mantel display. The title of all pairs we have begin with "DUO Available".
