This antique oyster plate is in the shape of a shell. This is quite unusual for oyster plates as most are round. There are 5 clearly delineated wells for oysters plus a sauce well in the middle. The plate is German and marked Weimar on the back. The longest dimension is 9 inches and 8.5 inches, narrowing down to 5 inches at the end. The design is very innovative for the late nineteenth century. The plate is in beautiful condition, with its lustrous pink finish contrasting with realistic oyster shell wells.
