This oyster plate is basically square but with a circular center. There are 5 wells and a center well for sauce. It is marked on the back Marx and Gutherz, a fine Austrian porcelain company. Note the fine condition of the gilding. There are charming little gilded fish swimming around the edge of the plate, as well as rich gilding bordering the wells. The plate is 8.75 inches across and in beautiful condition. Essentially the same plate is pictured on page 101 of the book Oyster Plates by Karsnitz. This oyster plate is circa 1900.
