This lovely gold and white oyster plate by Theodore Haviland has a remarkable well design. The wells are actually on the plate, rather than depressed, and are separated by the 5 raised designs. This plate is pictures and discussed on page 40 of the book, Collecting Oyster Plates by Snyder. The mark used is the castle mark of Theodore Haviland dating from 1892. The plate is 8.5 inches in diameter and valued by Snyder at $795-$875. This is quite an unusual French oyster plate.
