This vivid Haviland Limoges oyster plate dates from 1876-1886, according to the marks. The beautiful claret color sets this French oyster plate apart. Its form is the five well design referred to as the "turkey" form--with the imaginative observer seeing a brown shell forming the turkey head and a trio of brown shells forming the tail. Gilt tracery suggesting seaweed decorates the claret ground. The plate is 8.5 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition.
