This charming antique American sterling napkin ring features a collection of animals. There are two large chickens and a chick with a collection of eggs. Next is a large bullfrog who almost appears to be smiling. Staring him in the face is a duck who seems to be engaged in conversation. The overall design is very whimsical, and the artist's appeal would seem to appeal to a child. The napkin ring, however, is quite heavy for that of a child and free of any dents or dings usually associated with a napkin ring that a child would have dropped on the floor on many occasions. In fact it weighs 82.5 grams or 2.91 ounces. The sterling mark has apparently been rubbed off. We can certainly date the piece for there is an inscription reading "Ella J. Wheeler 1886." The opening is 1.75 inches and the width is 1.5 inches. The napkin ring is in beautiful condition.
