This is a most unusual napkin ring. I have never seen another like it. There are six astrological signs shown on the ring in repousse work. The signs included are taurus, libra, leo, aries, virgo and cancer. The signs are designed with considerable detail in a band around the center. On the borders of the napkin ring we find a detailed depiction of ferns. There are full English hallmarks, shown in the last picture: the sterling symbol (lion rampant), the city symbol (London), the date letter O for the year (1889), and the maker's marks W.G over J.L. This is the mark of William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman. The diameter is 1.75 inches and the width is 1.5 inches. It weighs 1.3 ounces and is in pristine condition. Average sterling napkin rings are 1 ounce or less, so this napkin ring has a nice heft to it.
