Here is a rare sterling pre Revolution Russian napkin ring. It has the mark of the maker Mikhail Karpinsky. It also has the mark of the city in which it was made, Moscow, and the mark dates it between 1865 and 1883, very early indeed. The ring is 1.75 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches wide. The ring is marked 84, which is the "sterling" standard for Russian items. Strictly speaking it is 87.5% silver, just under the 92.5% recognized sterling standard in the West. There is a lovely gold wash which is not diminished in any way and an engraved letter R. The napkin ring is in pristine condition.
