This is a very early American sterling napkin ring, probably from the 1860's. On the napkin ring are two birds with wings open. There is floral decoration between the birds and on the sides of the ring itself. If this were not enough, there is a tall thin bud vase on the ring ready to accommodate a small group of flowers. The piece is 4.75 inches tall and most impressive. Even after all these decades there seems to be no damage to this delicate item. It is marked 925 STERLING on the bottom (last picture). There also appears the number 46 but no maker's mark. It is very heavy for a sterling napkin ring, weighing in at 2.7 ounces on a postal scale. As noted earlier, it is in remarkable condition. You will not see another sterling napkin ring like this.
