Here is a most unusual antique American sterling spoon - one commemorating the new year. At the top of the handle are three bells and down the handle among the holly and berries are the words "Ring out the old. Ring in the new." In the bowl are three winged cherubs in various acrobatic poses. On the back is the word STERLING. We also find the maker identified: J.H. Johnston & Co., 17 Union Sq., NY. The company was out of business before 1900 so this spoon is well over a century old. It is 5.75 inches long and in wonderful condition. You are not likely to see a spoon like this again.
