This historical blue English transferware plate is by Ralph Hall, one of the fine Staffordshire potters, of Swan Bank, Tunstall. The mark dates it to the period 1822-1841, according to Godden's book of marks. The plate features Llanarth Court in Monmouthshire Wales. The stately home was built in the late 18th century for the Jones family of Treowen. The home had later 19th century alterations. The scene is Romantic Staffordshire transferware at its finest: a family strolling along a river with swans gliding peacefully-- its three-story home in the background. The plate is 10 inches in diameter and in beautiful condition with no chips or cracks. The color is outstanding among all blue and white porcelain, thus the term "historical blue" was coined.
