This is a charming portrait of a beautiful child. Her pensive look accentuates her lovely features and blond curls. The simple blue dress with lace collar is perfect. The surprise is that the signature is "McGaughlin's XXX Coffee." This was perhaps originally a trade card. The piece is matted in a buff mat with triple French lines. The frame (with glass) complements the portrait. It is cream with applied rose sculptured corners. We see some staining on the mat and a small flaw in one of the rose corners. The frame is 8.75 inches by 7.75 inches and the subject is 4 7/8 inches by 3 3/4 inches. The coffee company in question was established in 1852 in Chicago and was the first coffee company to sell preroasted beans, a giant advance over its competitors.
