The full title is "The Adventures of Gil Blas of Santillane Translated from the French of Lesage". It has engravings from paintings by Robert Smirke. This book is Volume III of 4 volumes. The story follows the escapades of Gil Blas as he moves from one employer to the next, serving as a valet. The book is fully leather bound with gilt highlights. The frontis page is in handsome brown deckle paper and the edges of the pages also show a deckle pattern. The book is 6.5 inches by 4 inches. The book is in fine condition with light foxing on some of the pages.
