This is a handsome cup and saucer in the "Indian Tree" pattern by Hope and Carter. The "H&C" mark was used while the company was in business 1862-1880. It became part of G. L. Ashworth & Bros in 1880. There is a gold and black luster border around the edge of the saucer and a pewter turquoise and brown luster border on the inside of the saucer. The gold and black border is repeated on the inside of the cup. The turquoise and rose of the decoration are vivid, along with gilt accent. Both cup and saucer are outstanding condition considering the set was made about 140 years ago. The diameter of the cup is 3.75 inches. The cup is 1.75 inches tall. The diameter of the saucer is 5.5 inches.
