This striking antique centerpiece is Victorian elegance at its finest. With its sheer height - 17.5 inches - it makes quite a statement in the center of the table. The silverplate base has a naturalistic look. On the "rocky" base stands a really beautiful figure of a young boy. The figure itself is 6 inches tall. The modeling of the youth is extremely graceful. Across the boy's shoulder is a strap and under his arm a bag filled with the bounty of the harvest. Behind the figure are sheaves of wheat, one horizontal and one vertical. Accenting the sinuous twisting stem of the centerpiece are bunches of grapes and grapevines. The reticulated top is surrounded by leaves and grapes. The diameter of the centerpiece top is 8.5 inches. The top part is designed to unscrew for cleaning. The piece is unmarked. We have listed on Ruby Lane (identified as grplateau) a complementary plateau by Elkington (also in silver plate). with a grape motif that we have used under this centerpiece in our home for many years. This centerpiece has features favored by Elkington and may in fact have been made by that distinguished firm. The last picture shows the two pieces together in a complete table setting.
