Here is a fine English antique dark blue, sometimes called "historical blue", transferwarer plate by Adams with a river scene. There is a large building next to a river, likely a mill, a boat in the foreground, and a wonderful floral border decoration made even more special by its asymmetric nature. The mark on the back clearly says "Adams Warranted Staffordshire", so there is no doubt as to the maker. Plates with the same border and complementary pastoral scenes date to the 1820's. The plate is 9 inches in diameter. There is browning on the back but no chips or cracks, unusual for a plate of this age.
