This style of ceramic salt and pepper shakers were made in Japan during the 1940s. They were made in various sizes. This pair is the medium size, at 5 inches tall. For reasons I will never understand, the red color was always cold painted (over the clear glaze, as opposed to under it. So, like these, most you find will show wear, and/or paint touch ups, to the red paint. They are otherwise in excellent condition, with their original corks.
