Just gorgeous, vintage set that includes a three compartment compact, and matching comb. They were made by the Bliss Brothers Company (B.B.&Co. Attleboro, Mass) The comb case is marked with a patent date of 1922. Stunning, gold tone metal and black enamel with yellow guilloche with pink roses inserts. Other Bliss pieces, that have the original paperwork, identify the metal as, "24K gold electro plated". This set has no paperwork, but judging from the finish and the quality, I would say this is true of this set, as well. The condition for both pieces is amazing, especially considering the set is about 80 years old. The compact measures 5 inches wide, by 2&1/4 inch deep. The right side has two, hinge lidded compartments. One for face powder (now empty), and the other for rouge, which is full, and has never been used and is still imprinted with the "Bliss" name. The lid on the rouge compartment is a mirror on both sides. The larger, left hand side compartment, I believe, was intended to hold non filter cigarettes. Or, possibly coins. The matching comb is clean, and appears to have never been used. It has a slide mechanism on the top. The plastic comb is attached, but easily slides out. NO missing teeth! An ingenious design, really, for the day. There is no wear to the gold tone finish. If tilted into the light, there is minor surface wear to the black enamel. This outstanding set is totally functional, and would do any upscale collection proud!
