Gorgeous, Victorian era desk bell that is mounted on a round, marble base.It is made of ornate brass, with grape clusters and flowers between the three oval panels. Two of the panels are small, beveled mirrors. The third is clear glass that has a decal of a "downtown" street, and, "Jerusalem". Note there is wear to the back of the decal, and very top portion is missing all together. The hammer bell has a figural bird top. When pushed, the hammer comes back, then hits the bell inside making a loud ring that has a lovely tone. The spring loaded hammer is strong. It measures 5&1/2 inches tall, and the base is 3&1/2 in diameter. The two mirrors show some wear to the nickle on the backs, but no chips, or cracks. I see no marks, but found another that is just like it, but with different panels, and it is described as "19th century France", which would have been my guess from the look and feel and past experience. I haven't cleaned or polished it. It's tempting, but I will let the new owner decide if they prefer the original, vintage age patina.
