Made in Los Angeles, California by Athearn, "Ready to Run Trains in Miniature....Scaled from official blueprints". It does not appear to have ever been played with much, if at all. I am no expert in model or electric trains, so please email with any questions not answered here. There is no track in this set, and I have not tried it out. Having said that, this is a GREAT looking set! In addition to the engine and caboose, there are 9 freight cars. One flat bed car is fitted with a stand that holds a boat (included) for transport. There is a tiny railroad worker also included. The cars and undercarriages are plastic. All pieces are in mint/near mint condition, as is the bottom of the box. The lid has great graphics, and is in good condition. It shows some wear, and there is one split corner. There is no paperwork. The box measures about 20 inches long by 12&1/4 tall. I apologize for the high shipping, but this set weighs 4 pounds, before packing. The Athearn Company is still in business today, but only manufactured in Los Angeles from 1948-1955.
