If my parents were to be believed, this set may have been the only toy for a child in the 1920s-30s. From the very played with condition, this very well may be true in this case. All 3 dolls are in played with condition, and the poor little daughter has no legs and no right hand! Stamped in her back is, "Made in Japan". She is wearing a hand made dress. Papa is 4.5 inches tall and is wearing a hand made, black felt suit with hat. He has no chips or cracks, and is jointed at the hips and shoulders. He has some paint loss, mostly to his shoes, and like the rest of his family, could use a q-tip cleaning! Mama doll is 3.5 inches tall, and is jointed at the hips and shoulders with metal pins. Like Papa, she shows some paint loss, but has no chips or cracks. The bed was obviously made by an amateur carpenter, but is adorable. It measures 6.5 inches long, by 4 inches wide, and has a hand made mattress for the family to rest on after a long day od play. Possibly these were a part of a dollhouse? A wonderful example of vintage Depression era dolls.
