This vintage, thin glass, pre prohibition shot glass has etched lettering advertising, "Golden Medal and Rossmore Club Whiskies", and, "California Wine Co. Lima, O". (OHIO). It's 2.25 inches tall, and in mint condition. Circa 1900-1920
I understand that these old shot glasses were given to bars and saloons to promote a brand of liquor, or a particular establishment. The customer was allowed to keep them. Many didn't want to go home with them as "evidence" for the wife to see, and because they were plentiful, and free, or cost very little, many were thrown away, rather than washed and used again. When prohibition was passed, in 1920, most everything related to alcohol and the liquor industry was destroyed, making these scarce, and highly collectable.
I recently purchased a small collection of these shot glasses, and am happy to combine shipping. Most are advertising, but some are plain. To see them all, type, "shot glass" in the California Girls search box at the top of the page.
