This gorgeous, antique picture was purchased at an antiques auction, where it was described as "Early Steel Point Engraving in Ornate Gold Frame with Silk Mat". It measures 7 by 9 inches, not including the gold ormolu bale, for hanging on the wall. While the color of the enclosed frame is gold, it is probably brass. The silk mat is a pale yellow. There is no way to open the frame, that I see, to change, or remove the lovely photo. The young girl in the photo has such beautiful expression, and detail. The only identifying mark is on the etched on back of the frame. I've included a close up photo. It looks like, "Miss Alert, 1760" to me. The overall appearance suggest that this was made in France, but again, there are no marking to indicate so. The frame is in excellent condition, with minor verdigris, oxidation, on the bale, and minor wear on the back. The silk mat has no rot, or other damage, just slight color inconsistency along the bottom inch. The picture, itself, is perfect, as it the glass. It weighs almost 1&1/2 pound, before packing.
