Spectacular antique French Vernis Martin egg decorated with Chinoiserie! Hand painted and gilt with a large figural scene, featuring an elegantly dressed seated woman with a fan, and two architectural scenes adorned with foliage and birds. The egg is mounted on silver, guaranteed by the Boar's Head punch for small items. I frankly do not know if the egg was mounted later; the hallmarks date from the late 1800's. The silversmith is a rare female master: Maria Remy, of Paris, active from 1896. Condition is very good, some hairlines and very minor loss to the gilt. Fabulous piece. PLUS this comes from the estate of the Comte & Comtesse de Paris, in line for the Royal Crown had the monarchy continued to reign in France.
