Great set of 24 knives of carved of horn with silver caps and ferrules. There are 12 dinner size and 12 salad or dessert size knives. All perfectly matched and in very good condition. The silver caps and ferrules elaborately decorated with laurel boughs tied with ribbon, classic torch & quiver motif; both of a finely textured ground edged with a foliate border. Very fine work. The blades are marked '"Veritable Girard"; and that is the full extant of identifying marks on these pieces. No silver marks; although this does not mean they are not silver. Indeed, these are at least .800 silver. Caps and ferrules simply one thing that does not require guarantee marks in France, 1800's.
Please see photos for dimensions. Condition is quite good as you can see. A cap or two somewhat askew. I believe one handle has a hairline crack. Essentially, very good condition.
