H.M. Schrager Jewelry was founded in 1925 in New York City. It produced only small quantities of jewelry and called itself the House of Schrager through 1958. In 1959 the company changed its name to Jonne and then closed in 1962. Both Schrager and Jonne jewelry are hard to find and of very high quality using the best stones available at the time. This lovely Schrager necklace has a clasp consistent with those styles of the 1940's and 1950's. The carnelian beads are highly polished with each separated by small gold-tone beads. The necklace is from a Maine estate and has never been worn. The gold-tone clasp is reticulated and in excellent working condition; the necklace still has its two original tags! The back of the Schrager tag can still be read with a loupe. It says "style" then the number under that and at the bottom of the tag the price of $15. In the 1940's or 1950's, a $15 necklace was very expensive! The necklace measures 17 1/2 inches, and weighs 57.2 grams on my jewelry scale. It is a lovely and rare necklace, and if you love vintage costume jewelry, this necklace will make a nice addition to your vintage jewelry collection.
