Here is a stunning Edwardian gold filled bracelet in a 1” width, so hard to find. In addition, there are no dents nor dings, no wear to the gold fill. And, it weighs an amazing 61.5 grams! It is not marked gold fill, but it is since gold fill was not required to be marked thus until the federal government required it be done in 1933. The bangle has a double safety hinge which is marked Pat. 1911 and with a maker’s mark that is only partially legible. It reads NBL Co or HBL Co. or another letter before the B. It looks like the mark of Henry Lederer and his brother Benedict of Providence, Rhode Island. There were many Lederer's in the jewelry business in Providence with this company beginning in 1904. Gold filled bangles before they were marked for gold fill were either 10K or 14K GF according to ads that I have collected over the years. This bangle, because of its heavy weight is most likely 14K GF. It is slightly oval in shape with a tight clasp and hinge. You must press down hard to open it, but that guarantees that it won’t pop open on you. The back is engine turned with the front being a combination of the same turning intermixed with fancy scroll work. The center front has an elaborate monogram in a swirling script which blends well with the scrolling. In one direction It appears to read AM with the A slightly over the M. Turned the other way it could be W and V. I think it most likely AM. It truly is a stunning bangle, and because of its heavy weight of gold fill there are no dents nor wear that is commonly seen on lesser quality bangles. If you have been looking for a wide gold filled bangle, this one from a Maine estate has an interior diameter of 2 and 5/8” on the longer side, as it is slightly oval and will make a stunning accessory to your antique jewelry collection.
