What an amazing Edwardian gold filled bangle by S. B. Lederer of Providence Rhode Island! The bracelet is 1" in width and weighs 62 grams on my jewelry scale. I have never had a gold filled bracelet of such quality as to weigh that much. The condition is impeccable as seen in the photos. The clasp opens by pushing the button which causes the bracelet to slide open. There are two safety slides, important when a bracelet weighs that much. It is signed on one of the slides S&B L Co, Pat Dec 19 1911. The company opened for business in 1878 and closed its doors in 1931. It is not marked for gold content as that was not required by federal law if the item was gold filled until 1933. It would have been marked had it been all gold as the federal government required fine jewelry to be stamped as of 1906 in the Standard Stamping Act. Because of the quality of the bracelet I am guessing that it is 14K gold filled. There are no dents nor dings, and the bracelet has a tight clasp and snap to the closure. The bracelet is slightly oval with the interior measuring 2 and 5/8" at its widest point. It is engraved May as can be seen on the front. If you have been looking for a quality early gold filled bangle, one that is wide and heavy, this is the perfect bracelet to add to you vintage jewelry collection. You will find no finer.
