Western artist Ace Powell (1912-1978) grew up in Glacier National Park where his father worked as a wrangler for the park, and Powell himself was a former park saddle horse guide. He was intimately familiar with the land, the wildlife and Native American culture of the West, Montana in particular. This set of twelve posters is called " Pete and Repete, The National Park Bears"; it was created for the Glacier Natural History Association in conjunction with the National Park Service. The set is complete with twelve posters showing the bears giving advice to people who visit national parks. The posters measure 8" by 11" and are on a very sturdy cream colored poster weight of paper. The sketches look like pen and ink drawings and are in excellent condition with no foxing or water damage. The corners are also sharp, no bends anywhere. They are all signed with Powell's distinctive ace signature and come in the original envelope which does have some foxing. In addition, there is a paper giving Powell's background in the set as well. The set came from an estate in Denmark, Maine, most likely from family travel in mid-century. The set must have been purchased in Glacier National Park as it never was mailed; the cost of postage shown on the envelope helps to date the set. The set is a nice example of Powell's Western art as well as historical memorabilia from Glacier itself. It would look very nice as a framed set, and certainly bear lovers, whether it be Teddy bears or the real thing, would enjoy adding this set to their collection.
