A very interesting Antique (dated 1868) Mourning Memorial to Canadian Soldier John McMillan. McMillan passed away on May 7 1868 and was buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Finch. The tintype depicts him in uniform and has hand tinted accents. The Tintype is surrounded with an embossed mat with a mourning woman and Angels and there is an embossed paper card with his name and a poem. The Morning Memorial is in a period frame, it has glass. The Memorial was reworked and looks like there is paper between the wood back board, perhaps it was done with acid free materials? This came from an estate in Canajoharie, NY where there were no surviving relatives. The family was originally from Canada. Overall dimensions are 12 1/8" x 14 1/8". The Morning Memorial is in good overall condition. There is a crease on the tintype which can be seen in the photographs. This would make a great addition to a historical, Military or Mourning related collection.
