A nice antique plaque depicting Saint Thomas Becket of Canterbury, London, England. Becket was born in the year 1120 and died in 1170, he was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his murder in 1170. He is venerated as a saint and martyr by both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. He engaged in conflict with Henry II, King of England, over the rights and privileges of the Church and was murdered by followers of the king in Canterbury Cathedral. Soon after his death, he was canonized by Pope Alexander III. The plaque is made from an early composition type material and is signed and dated on the back "A. Osbourne, 1908, Copyright". The Plaque measures 5 5/8" high x 4 1/8" wide and is in very good overall condition. It would be perfect in a devotional collection.
