19thC Plaque of French Empress Eugenie Wife of Napoleon III
A nice antique plaque depicting Napoleon III's wife Eugenie. Doña María Eugenia Ignacia Augustina de Palafox y KirkPatrick, 16th Countess of Teba and 15th Marchioness of Ardales (1826–1920), known as Eugénie de Montijo was the last Empress consort of the French, from 1853 to 1871, as the wife of Napoleon III, Emperor of the French. The plaque is made from a non magnetic metal, spelter or zinc and is marked "EUGENIE IMPERATRI" and signed "J F Peyre E De Nieuwerkerke Dr". The plaque is large at 10 1/2" in diameter and weighs over 2 3/4 pounds. It is in very good overall condition with no chips or cracks and has a nice natural patina. The plaque would be perfect in an antique french history or Architectural collection.
