A nice circa 1929 Spanish Damascene Jewelry box. Damascening is the art of inlaying different metals into one another, gold or silver are typically used and are set into a darkly oxidized steel background, this produces intricate patterns similar to Niello. The English term comes from a perceived resemblance to the rich tapestry patterns of damask silk. This fine box is signed and dated Barcelona 1929(the year of the United States Stock Market Crash). The box is decorated with Gargoyles and scrolls and has excellent attention to detail. It retains the original velvet lining. The box measures 2 3/8" x 1 1/2" x 2" high. It is in very good overall condition with no losses. the only thing to note is some overall wear to the finish, see photos. The box would be perfect for a fine piece of Jewelry, it is a beautiful miniature antique.
