A neat antique plaque depicting the Duke of Wellington. Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852), was an Anglo-Irish soldier and statesman. He was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain. His defeat of Napoléon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 put him in the top rank of Britain's military heroes. The Plaque is made of pressed brass and is large at 16" x x 11 1/2" x 1 1/2" deep. It is in fair overall condition with some splits in the metal around his face, one on the left side background and in the deep repousse designs. The brass has a wonderful old verdigris surface. The Plaque would make an excellent addition to a Military or British History collection.
