A vintage (circa 1940-60s) wood advertising sign. The sign is hand painted and measures 24 1/4" x 13 3/4". Rene Knaepen came to the US in 1912, he joined the US Army as a cook in 1916 and was sent to France with his excellent French, Dutch, English language skills. He returned home after the war (WWI) and married Emma Koehler, daughter of a NYC Grocery store owner. His occupations included Grocery stores, insurance and real estate in both NYC & NJ. The sign is in good condition, it was used outdoors and has some wear to the finish, see photos. The sign would be perfect in a vintage advertising collection.
