c1880s Victorian Calling Card Receiver, Couple & Cherubs
An antique (circa 1880-1890s) tazza or calling card receiver. The tazza is made of patinated bronze and the base is slate (stone), it features a scene of a Greek or Roman Soldier with a Lady in a garden, there are musicians and cherubs. The underside and stem are also decorated with angels, nudes, rams heads and flowers. Overall dimensions are 7" in diameter x 6 3/4" high, it is heavy for it's size at over 3 1/2 pounds. The tazza is in very good overall condition. The only thing to note is a spot and minor wear to the patinated finish. There is a very shallow dent to the rim and a few small nicks to the edges of the slate, see photos. The tazza would be perfect for business cards, jewelry, keys, etc.
