A lovely antique Parian Porcelain Sculpture, Bust depicting Greek Goddess Aphrodite of Milos. The Sculpture is better known as the Venus de Milo, she is based on an ancient Greek statue which was created sometime between 130 and 100 BC. The Venus De Milo is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty (Venus to the Romans). The original Marble Sculpture is on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The statue is named after the Greek island of Milos, where it was discovered. This fine example is made of Parian Porcelain, Parian was developed to resemble natural marble so it is perfect for modeling Classical Sculptures such as the Venus De Milo. The bust is large at 16" high and 10" across her shoulders. Venus De Milo is not signed but is European in origin, most likely English. Venus De Milo is in very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. The only thing to note is a small clay shrink in her hair and some dark speck in the porcelain which is quite common to 19th Century porcelain, it effects the base more than the bust itself, see photos. Venus De Milo would make an elegant addition to any antique decor, she is beautiful.
