A lovely antique Victorian, Edwardian era Wax Portrait of a pretty lady. The portrait is most likely a custom portrait, it is executed in colored wax in a realistic manner and is most likely French, she is modeled with excellent attention to detail from the rose on her dress to her up swept hair. The lady is identified on the back as "Maria Stockton Stowell", there is also a notation of "Morvan" possibly a misspelling for Morven which is in Princeton, New Jersey. The partial label rads "Sculpture in wax.... American Lady expected at WA....from a Photograph and Interview...ria Stockton Stowell Chest......". Stockton family was prominent in the history of Politics, Princeton University, and the Military. The wax portrait is 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" and the wood frame is 6" in diameter, it is complete with bubble glass. The Portrait is in very good overall condition. The Lovely Lady would be perfect in an antique Victorian era decor.
