A nice pair of vintage Bronze Bookends. The Bookends are from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. The Bookends have the College's motto "Expression is Necessary to Evolution". The school was founded in 1880 by Charles Wesley Emerson who's goal was to train students who could implement his educational philosophy. Emerson believed that it was possible for individuals to train themselves physically, mentally, morally, and spiritually to achieve “perfect altruism,” a state in which their lives were focused solely on helping and elevating others. These Bookends are very heavy at just under 8 pounds for the pair, each measures 6 3/8" high x 6 1/2" wide x 2 3/4" deep. The pair looks circa 1940s or so. They are in very good overall condition and would be perfect for large hard cover books. The felt has some wear and fading and can simply be removed or replaced. The Bookends would be perfect in an Educational collection.
