A nice antique Staffordshire, Transferware Plate from the Oriental Scenery series. The Plate depicts the “City Of Benares” and was made by John Hall & Sons circa 1814-1832. The pattern is from a series of Indian views copied from Charles Ramus Forrest’s book “A Picturesque Tour along the Rivers Ganges and Jumna in India,” which was published in 1824. The Plate is signed on the back "Oriental Scenery, City of Benares, J Hall & Sons". It measures 6 1/4" in diameter and is in very good overall condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The only thing to note is a skip in the transfer by the people and staining to the back, see photos. The Plate would be perfect in an early Flow Blue, Transferware collection.
