Offered for purchase is a beautiful PH Leonard Austria Arts & Crafts Enameled Floral Design Candlestick/Candleholder Pair (Signed "S. Mayo Davenport, Piedmont, CA"/c.1912-1920) hand-painted/decorated in the US or Canada as part of the Arts & Crafts movement. According to Mary Frank Gaston’s “Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain”, P.H. Leonard was a US based importer of Limoges porcelain from 1890’s until World War I.

The design for this item is by Adah S. Murphy and may be found in the May 1912 edition of Keramic Studio Magazine. A photo of the page is included in this listing. Keramic Studio Magazine was a monthly publication for the amateur porcelain/china decorator which provided designs, detailed instructions on porcelain/china decorating, as well as articles and photographs of competitions and displays between various china decorating studios and clubs. The magazine was first published in May 1899 and continued into the late-1920’s.

The candlesticks/candle holders are in excellent condition... no chips, cracks or repairs, although there are some surface scratches and wear from age and use, and one has a minor flake on the corner of the side spout. Each candlestick/holder is approximately 4 inches tall, 3.75 inches in diameter at the widest including the handle, and .75 inch opening for the candle. The bottom of each is marked as indicated in the pictures.

Please note: Most of our photos are taken with a blue background which may make light colors and reflective surfaces appear blue or with a blue tint. Should you have any questions regarding the colors of our items, please ask for clarification.
