Offered for purchase is a beautiful Ceramic Art Co. (CAC) Belleek "Shooting Star" Design Centerpiece Bowl (Signed "Maria Stauffer"/c.1906-1924) hand-painted/decorated in the US or Canada as part of the Arts & Crafts movement.
The design for this item is by Edith Alma Ross and is found in the January 1905 edition of "Keramic Studio" Magazine. The bowl is painted exactly as specified in the magazine: "Dark portions of design Dark Blue; light ground, Pearl Grey; dark grey portion, Light Brown; medium grey portion, Salmon Pink; flowers Pale Cream; centers and pink petals, stems and leaves, Grey Green; outlines in Gold." Keramic Studio Magazine was a monthly publication for the amateur porcelain/china decorator which provided designs, detailed instructions on porcelain/china decorating, as well as articles and photographs of competitions and displays between various china decorating studios and clubs. The magazine was first published in May 1899 and continued into the late-1920’s. The bowl is in excellent condition... no chips, cracks or repairs, although there are some surface scratches and wear from age and use. The bowl is approximately 8.5 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall. The bottom is marked as indicated in the pictures.
