This is a stunning and rather conspicuous example of Etruscan Revival gold work! During the Victorian era, exciting archaeological discoveries sparked the imagination of jewelers. The demand for this style jewelry was great, and it complimented the dark heavy clothing fabrics of the day. This exceptionally well crafted locket still retains its original glass. There is a piece of blue fabric under the glass. Perhaps it was taken from a favorite dress, to remind the wearer of a special event. The royal blue enamel is in very good condition with no repairs. Please note that what appears to be missing enamel in the photos- this is a reflection since the enamel is shiny- look at all pictures. here is slight wear to the bale from a chin which ran through it. This locket will come with the new satin cord shown with it, which has an aged brass lobster clasp. I would recommend wearing it on a cord to prevent further wear to the bale. This was tested by an estate jewelry dealer and tested strongly for 14k, so I suspect it is 15k and English. It measures 3 3/8" by 1 3/8". The framed glass is perfectly pressure fitted into the locket and can be easily removed by lifting it with a fingernail.
