This bulbous, highly detailed brooch features design elements indicative of the mid 19th century. Tassels, knots and festoons became fashionable after France conquered Algeria. It tests 14k gold and has its original C clasp. The tassel has tapered "boot lace" fringe. It is large and unusual, and the turquoise really stands out against the gold patina. It could be cleaned to remove this natural century old tarnish, but I will give its new owner that option. It measures 2 1/2 inches in length and is 1 3/4 inches wide. It weighs in a t a respectable 10.8 grams! The knot is about 1 inch thick! A ribbon necklace or chord could be threaded through the knot to wear it as a pendant. This is a unique piece for the 19th century jewelry collector!
